Why Are There Stars
Little girls need wishes,
little boys need hope,
stars in the sky are reminders
we all need ways to cope.
Adventure desires a starting point,
aliens and spaceships need a home.
Far away galaxies inspire fantasy,
gives E.T. a place to phone.
Why are there stars we wonder
as the night falls on lovers entwined,
well, my love there are there for us,
decorations for your eyes.
And when the night shows in panoramic
there is a clever little game we play,
connect the dots in a special way
and imagination makes constellations.
We see protectors in the sky,
a crab, a bear and a fish,
watching us, looking down on us,
there is security in the stars.
We loose ourselves in wonder how far
with every twinkle, twinkle little star
every child who sleeps by lullaby
will continually dream about "what you are"
So why are there stars,
for many rhymes and reasons,
gauge the seasons, astrology, astronomy,
but for me I believe
stars are just fireflies that got stuck
in the muck of a inky sky.
