Why Are There Stars

why
      are
            there
                     stars?

are they stepping stones to heaven

lanterns
             that
                   light
                           your
                                   way?

or lighthouse stars...hear a sailor scream

“hallelujah…we are saved”

why there
       are stars?

they circle ‘round the moon and sing

i’m not kidding

        these little blinks of light

the bling of the skies

         sentinels of moonstruck lovers

haloes of angels

   light years away

          WHYareTHEREstars?

They shout forevermore from glory!

Are they stars or heaven’s ships?

i ride the chariot of candlelight

pulling on the reins of hope

but really...why...are...there...stars?

a child cranes his head counting his dreams

and when the moon turns dark,

fireflies of the sky fill the child’s head

as the myriad of stars wander filling our lives with wonder

the chalkboard hangs over our souls instructing starstruck eyes

we count, connect the dots, makes wishes

and ask forgiveness
