Why

Why does the rainfall on the riverbed
where no current of water streams?
Why does the rain pour hard on the water’s edge
where no drift carries the heaps of troubles away?

Why does the wind pass through the reed-field
by the foot of a mountain?
Why does the wind blow hard while stamping and
clutching the broken reeds that barely stand in the marsh?

Why does the sunset
though I still have a long way to go?
Why does the sun sink in the horizon
while dying western skies color with glows of red?
though I found only a glimpse of myself in the darkening
my own image.
