Why
I want to come with you if only for a while- outside in the sunshine,
But I see your coat is already buttoned and your boots are laced,
I watch as you stand at the mirror admiring your black locks.
If I asked to come with you what would you say? I shall not ask,
Maybe there is someone outside the window awaiting you,
I watch as you place a reluctant kiss on my wrinkled cheek.
I know you are leaving even though no words are spoken,
It has been good to see you, my son, you look well,
I wanted to come with you for a while- but you did not ask why.
