Who Would Have Thought By Valerie D. Staton The first time we met I was a bit scared To be in a union unequally paired You smoked cigarettes, I did not You liked the cold weather, I liked it hot You drank alcohol, I drank decaf tea Who would have thought you’d be the one for me? Your clothes were unkempt and so was your hair My friends were not fond of you, but I did not care Shameful how people look outward not in I saw a beautiful heart beating within Only I could see the gem standing there A gift that the Lord decided to share We’ve never argued, nor have we ever fought An oddly matched couple...who would have thought

I always say "you love who you love who you love". I stand by this, and so does your poem. This is a tribute to you also to see past the outside stuff which is nothing at all really.
