Notes About The Poem

December 30, 2023, placed 10th in Unseeking Seeker's Who Are We at Our Core contest

Who We Are at Our Core

There’s beauty at the core of humankind,
called love, engendering our need to bind
ourselves in strong relationships, to be
the instruments of peace and unity.

             *****************

You’ll find out some are greedy to the core
when they prove what they most desire is more.
They’ll easily conclude that you need less
and walk on you to claim their happiness.

             *****************

Each harbors deep within the power to choose
what he or she will be: the one who views
the world as MINE, to cater just to me;
or one who values all humanity,
for viewing all as neighbors is the key.

An exquisitely composed poem expressed so eloquently, Janice! I am astounded by the instances of genuine malice and self-centeredness that I occasionally observe.

Sadly there are greedy ones among us Janice and think nothing of conning others. Hope you have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year. Tom

Thanks so much, Tom. The scammers are REALLY after senior citizens. I suppose they think the mind dies a violent death the instant one hits 65. LOL! Janice

Those who covet, and there's plenty of them. Those who give their time for others. They never get a mention. Strange world isn't it.
