Who I Was

you knew who I was

for years I perfected my cause

left overseas to a new land

in beer tents I made a stand

love lost on the wicks end

crept in slowly as a friend

 past ripped and tore me

from a boy to a man

and gave me hope to carry on

you did everything to please me

my life changed but my mind was my own

 you condoned my drink

i degraded you in an evil tone

 used the accident to medicate

my life I lost and no one to direct

sought threw poetry and drunken intellect

 all these expectation of me

tired of the man you think I should be

i can’t do this on my own

need a miracle a new thing

 picked up the phone

you answered on the first ring

“hi my name is bruce and I’m an alcoholic”
