Who I Am

My first name is a sonnet interwoven through the generations of yesteryear. Observant eyes see through the shroud of ill-intent. An insatiable hunger only succumbs to the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Trials and tribulations have made me incapable of relying on others. A hopeless romantic dwells within my heart’s chambers. Sister of soldiers. Daughter of a devil. Mother of the future. Lover of equality, laughter, and art. I feel the anger of the oppressed, the power of the survivors, and the stolen innocence of children. I fear the fires of the unjust will consume us, the loss of cultures, and the destruction of the sea. I would like to see a world without borders, races no longer separated by colors, and rights not imposed by religion. The cool mountains is where my heart has found its home. Plateaus expand through the Land of Enchantment. Casting it’s magical spell upon those who stay too long. My last name is the one given to me by a mother. Stripped by my husband. And restored by myself.
