Who I Am

i'm the girl you see
sitting down on the floor of the bookstore
trying to get a preview of as many pages as i can,
grasping at any inspiration i can reach.
thinking of a future where all i can see
is poetry
and not some part time job
that requires me to pretend to be happy
every time i step through their door.
this life isn't always happy
and you have to acknowledge the darkness
to see how bright the light really is.
thinking of a future where my words
inspire and encourage others
to reach their hands out
and pull their dreams right to life.

It's refreshing to know someone is not drawn to the glitter of being happy by having others dictate who you are. Your greatest contribution to the sum total of things is yourself.
