Who Broke Your Heart
I wiped away your tears
red-cheeked as you cried away your fears
who broke your heart this time, my dear?
Standing at my doorstep
you knocked soft and gentle wept
when I opened up the door unlocked and kept.
In my arms, you fell inconsolable with your woe
unhappy tears that tore apart your very soul
why did this happen to you again I'll never know.
I took you in and sat you down to wipe your eyes
without a word you continued your untethered cries
where had your heart been torn in another goodbye?
Embracing you in love's sweet wrap tempered
the cries became a solaced whimper
how does this keep burning your heart's embers?
I hold you close in comforting composure
you are another love's battle soldier
but here I am, the one who consoles you.
I'm here for you, open your eyes to see
there is a dream you could easily set free
a love that will never break your heart, it's me.
