Notes About The Poem

4/9/2026 for 1466 Poetry Contest sponsored by Brian Strand

Who Am I Riddle

I am at once
a child,
an elder,
a bird,
and one who hears birdsongs.
I become
all my incarnations
as every time meets
where land meets water
water meets sky
darkness meets light
and birth meets death.

Hello David, a spirit stepping through its own doorways, child, elder, bird, witness all meeting in those threshold places where one element becomes another. I love how the poem is simple and ancient, for identity isn’t a fixed point but a tide moving through land, water, sky, and time. Blessings, Daniel

Hi Daniel, thanks - I like the way you put that, a spirit is untethered, and can go lots of places!
