White Lace
And the snowflake softly fell
Of its journey could it tell
Borne by winds from icy lands
Patterned lace my sleeve it stands
Brothers, sisters, fall the ground
Form a sheet for all around
Under which will nature sleep
In the spring will come to peep
That blinding white before the eye
Nestles soft under dulling sky
Across the surface a chilling breeze
Beneath my feet comes the freeze
The browns and greens have all gone
Drifts are formed and the scenery one
And deep below in lairs and nests
Nature slows, sleeps and rests
Snow though cold has a pleasant side
Creates such beauty the eye abides
The perfect sheet of pure white lace
Provides a cool but sentient place
