Whispering Nothing (Freeverse)

Holding you in my arms
we both knew where it would end,
we both knew we had no choice,
we tried everything to avoid it,
but it was calling the shots
and we had to say goodbye.

Holding you closer,
hoping that would make a difference,
hoping goodbye would never come,
stroking your cheek and whispering,
whispering nothing.

Wishing time would stop,
wishing you would take me with you,
one of us had to stay behind;
some how I must try to live
without you.
