Whisper at the Grave

Rain fell softly against the stone,
And for the first time, I was truly alone.
My shaking hands traced your name,
But nothing in me would ever be the same.

“Why did you leave me?” I cried at the sky,
My voice cracked weak as the wind passed by.
“I still need you… I’m not okay,
How am I meant to face this pain?”

The flowers trembled beneath the storm,
As memories wrapped around me warm.
Your laugh, your voice, your tired smile,
The little moments that made life worthwhile.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, choking on grief,
“For every moment cut too brief.
For the nights I never stayed,
For the calls I should have made.

For the words that never left my chest,
For not loving you louder when I had the chance.
Now silence is all this graveyard gives,
And I would trade anything for one more kiss.”

Then suddenly the cold wind slowed,
And through the dark, your presence glowed.
Like moonlight stepping through the rain,
A gentle voice called out my name.

*“Don’t cry for me… don’t live in pain.
You do not need to break in my name.
I know your heart, I know your fight,
And I have watched you every night.

I never blamed you for the time we lost,
Love is never measured by the cost.
The words you feared were left unsaid?
I heard them all long before my death.

So dry your tears and lift your head.
I am not truly gone or dead.
Live your life, chase every dream,
Become the person you were meant to be.

Laugh again when the mornings rise,
Feel the warmth of brighter skies.
And when you speak my name with love,
Know I still walk beside you from above.”*

The rain grew quiet. The night stood still.
But somehow my chest could finally heal.
I placed my hand upon the grave,
No longer drowning in what I could not save.

Because love does not end when a heartbeat stops,
It lives in the people who carry it on.
And as I walked away through the breaking dawn,
I realized… you were never truly gone
