Author's Notes: This is another co-write that Liam McDaid and I had just finished late today under the interesting and hopefully funny title: "Whiskey Lips So Sublime." The backstory theme to this particular poem concerns the soul of a man who is possessed by the "intoxicated spirits." In this case, think the "whiskey spirits." We sincerely hope you enjoy the read and the tongue-in-cheek humor!! (Gary Bateman and Liam McDaid - July 23, 2018) (Free Verse)

Whiskey Lips So Sublime

Whiskey Lips step now over the line of true fire-water,
As a warm-burning brings forward one glowing sign.
The golden mead of sweet mountain dew appears now,
As each golden drop sighs it moment of escape and as
The alcohol signals and sparks the wildest of spirits in
One’s own true self!

This moment of sublime ecstasy excites and sparks your
Deepest inner-spirit and you begin to slur and sing loudly,
As your mind begins to reel from the drunken delight of
Your very own intoxicating breaths—noble, yet stupid,
As you become drunken forever under each psychic sip
You taketh from the deepest pool in the very depths of
Your eternal soul!

Your very eyes now glaze over a breathless message
You have found in the cheapest of whiskey bottles.
Saying a divine prayer to Almighty God Himself,
You open the bottle cork now and take notice that a
Little genie pops out of nowhere and begins to take all
Three of your mythic wishes granted together into one!

With that, this little genie shall begin dancing and singing
An ancient Irish whiskey song in your presence into the
Wee hours of the morning until you both pass out and fall
Into a drunken stupor with your whiskey lips so sublime!

Hi Gary, a wonderful, fun write on that old demon Whiskey. I am willing to give Liam and ypourself Guiness but when it comes to Whiskey.......SCOTLAND! I haven't drank for many years now but your collaboration did bring back memories. I have to admit, I loved the way that you both wrote this little gem. Have a wonderful Tuesday. Hello Vlad (Mike)!! Great to hear from you!! I just happen to currently be down in Stuttgart, Germany this week away from my residence in Northern Germany. Regardless, my laptop is with me. I am very pleased that you like this "Whiskey" co-write from Liam and me. I really don't drink much anymore as well, but I still have a glass of wine or whiskey on occasion. BTW, I'm hoping to have my second poetry book manuscript to my publisher by early Spring 2019, with it being released to the public sometime thereafter. I will keep you apprised!! Best, Gary

Hello Robert!! Many Thanks to you, as always, for your read and for your very gracious comments -- and for the FAV too!! This one was as very special verse written, of course, tongue-in-cheek. I am probably the more dedicated whiskey drinker than Liam. This poem helps to reflect the Irish heritage of both of its author's!! LOL!! Best Wishes to you and your family!! Gary

Hello Arturo, Thanks for your read and great comment here. This was written, of course, as a joke. However, with Liam being full-blooded Irish and with my being part Irish through my Mother's family -- we both do enjoy some whiskey now and then. (I can speak for myself for sure on that!!) And so -- don't be afraid to have a glass!! LOL!! Cheers, Gary
