Notes About The Poem

Image result for Whippoorwill BirdFirst time I have heard the whip-poor-will this spring. It reminds me of days gone by when we would hear them everynight while going to sleep.

Whip-Poor-Will

whip-poor-will's first call

this spring comes at midnight hour....

                                                          ignites memories.

A sure sign that warmer days have come... We usually hear their call on balmy summer nights here in Wisconsin... This is a lovely poem, Sara!

Why, thank you, Phyllis. Yes, our Easter Sunday was nice. We had lunch with our daughter and enjoyed seeing some of the grandchildren hunt eggs. Thanks for your visit. Sara

Anne-Lise, they are nocturnal, so they say. I have never heard one during the daylight hours. I enjoy the sound, but I suppose for some people would not like it. Your visits are always uplifting. Sara

Andrea, you can type in on your search engine, call of the whip-poor-will or something like that and it will show some videos of the bird with it calling. Thanks for the visit. Sara

Vijay, Yes, the whip-poor-wills let us know that the warm weather is here. The cooing of the doves in the morning also signal the arrival of spring and summer. Thanks for the kind review of my work. Sara

Beautiful sound of lonesome call, we have some that comes late spring into the summer nights, surprising they are so small for in the night time their call echoes throughout the land : )

Yes, Stephan, I remember a song that says, "When whip-poor-wills call and evening is nigh, I hurry to my blue heaven". I don't remember much more of the song nor who recorded it. Your comments are a delight to read. Sara

This one is excellent, Mrs Sara. As long as it stays in Ga. LOL They can be a nuisance. A very distinct and monotonous song! But a lovely haiku

Daniel, Ahh!! Their call can be wonderful though, but I guess one human's treasure is another human's agony. Thanks for the kind review of my work. Sara
