While the Demons Laugh

Darkness
An endless underground
Lit only by raging fires
Shadows hide creatures which should never be imagined
Demons claw at corroded rock
Gouged and pitted by never ending heat
Lost angels sit on ashen thrones
Watching the condemned beneath
The dead moan a useless cry
The dying beg for forgiveness
For unremembered sins
And unmentioned errors
Punished humans
No longer people
Sent to this place by a God who didn’t care
Exiled for some inexcusable mistake
Naked
Tortured
They run through the toxic smoke
Stumbling over those who came before
Their breasts rise and fall
Every breath fills them with sulfur
Fragile lungs melt with each breath
Healthy pink tissue turns black and dies
Coughing and choking
Their eyes turn to glass
Losing all emotion yet still showing the pain
Dreams fill their tortured minds
Fantasies
Memories
Of a single breath of cool air
One last hope and an eternity to cling to it
While the demons laugh
