Notes About The Poem

Gina's New Voices Contest ~ January, 30, 2025

While My Heart Aches

Moonlight will reign when twilight fades Skies darken and starlight cascades The world is poised, ready for sleep While my heart aches, and my eyes weep Tides continue to ebb and flow Grief chills my life like Winter snow Tears borne on waves into the deep While my heart aches, and my eyes weep Nights are long as I lie abed Memories of us fill my head Time moves slowly, seeming to creep While my heart aches, and my eyes weep In restlessness, I toss and turn For what I have lost, I still yearn From love we've sown, I cannot reap While my heart aches, and my eyes weep Muted in lament are my sighs So no one hears my mournful cries I pray to God, "My soul to keep" While my heart aches, and my eyes weep As dawn appears in morning light I'm thankful for passage of night Across my room, sunlight will sweep While my heart aches, and my eyes weep

Lin, this reflects the epitome of sadness and mourning. It's compelling and makes me want to jump into the page and offer some sympathy and company. I have been lucky to have a faithful companion for the past decades, but I can imagine what it could be like for either of us if one were to go. Hope you are well!!

Lin, Yes, a little darkness in palatte shades is necessary in life, at least it's so for me. Without pains of heartache and strife, what use is ecstasy? -Richard

Hi Richard and thank you so very much for your thoughts. We truly appreciate life more after we've felt the pain of heartache.

A break up can be devastating, there is no joy and your mind tumbles down into a bleak abyss. I noticed your comment to Kim, so far I've fought in wars, fell on a railroad track and survived, slayed dragons and gone back in time. All this and still managing being mayor in a wild West Town lol. If its real I'd say so. Tom

Point taken and it is wise advice. Having lived through the reality of some experiences lends layers of truth to fiction. Thank you for such sage comments, Mayor Tom.

Thanks very much, Kim. Maybe I should note this is fiction, as Gina has mentioned in a recent blog.
