Wherever You Lay You Down To Sleep Tonight
Wherever you lay you down to sleep tonight
Be it near the bleating barges
Or the river that fills its sea
Be it where the city lights
Make poor imitation of a comforting day,
Wherever you lay down to sleep tonight
Remember
There is another who keeps vigil of the night
And roam his thoughts like hooting truck
Or ship, or plane
Or something that remove ignorance like a muck
O still his vigil keeps
Wherever you lay you down to sleep tonight
I in far away sorrow steeps
For more than gulf
I do not fear the distance
My trust can walk
I fear the silence
Then sudden overwhelm that you may no more talk.
