The river remembers you — not perfectly, but in the way water forgets and then recalls, as if your name were a current still trying to loosen its grip. It carries the blur of your shadow in its slow, uneven d r i f t, holding the faint silhouette of your footsteps lingering like silt. I walk the river’s edge, the reeds muttering in an unfamiliar language and trembling with a small pull of something remembered. A ripple moves across the river’s skin, like it’s brushing past an old hurt, and the surface quivers with memories that never learned to drown. It shows me the places your breath once moved across the banks, a softness remaining the way dusk sometimes pauses before giving itself to night. And when the current turns, it reveals a glimmer~ a green-gold flicker like the thought of you returning. The river remembers because water keeps what time cannot~ the shimmer of a leaving, the pulse of a promise, the luminous ache of everything almost said. And when night gathers itself, the river r i s e s, carrying that memory like a diaphanous spark, guiding the wanderer toward the first quiet moment where absence learned its name.
