Charon...in Greek myth ferryman of the underworld

who carried souls across the river Styx for payment

The call of the wolf haunts the night when the full moon rises between the realms of nightmares and dreams where souls are gathered in dark fields of stone and fireflies where fairies dart around and shadowed goblins hide this place of the dead where ghosts abound and whispers of the forgotten are heard on the full moon for they couldn't pay Charon and now wander on the banks of the river Styx waiting in hell until they pay the ferryman with time or coin only then may they take Charon's ferryboat and cross the river into the never realm of eternity

Congratulations on your placement in the Fantasy contest. Your poem was a pleasure to read. It remind me of what a song once admonished "don't pay the Ferryman until you get to the other side."

Interesting that I came across this as I just read an article on the Star Trek Voyager episode Barge of the Dead, which has a similar mythological storyline. Good write Fred
