Where Does Happiness Lie

Where does happiness lie?
On the waves of the ocean,
Or the clouds in the sky?
In the eyes of a child,
Or the blue bird's cry?

Where will I find the golden sun?
For it is blocked by coulds of grey!
Where is the light I long for,
So I no longer have to mourn each day.

Where can I find laughter?
So my spirit can be free!
Please show me the lock,
And I will surely find the key.

Why must I live in sorrow?
Regretting each day of the past.
Let me come out of the darkness,
So I can leave the merciless shadows,
That evil ways have cast.
