Where Do They Go?
Where do they go?
When the last breath is taken
They depart this earth
Causing us to awaken from our slumber.
What is a life?
From whence did it come?
To live on this earth
With its joy and its pain.
We look for miracles and seek something to inspire
But what is more wonderous than a baby growing inside its mother?
Then breathing air for itself
Until one day it brings forth its own new life.
Then we grow and age – the well-lived body wearing out, breaking down
There is a majesty in dignified ageing – one that a culture based on matter and the physical finds hard to understand
But there is a peace and calmness in loving and being loved
Knowing that you couldn’t have done anymore, or any less.
Knowing that to judge others is to condemn yourself
What does it matter when you draw your last breath?
What I thought was important really wasn’t at all
It was love all along that will out-live us.
