Where Do Shadows Go

When there is no light, where do shadows go that they cannot be seen; how can I know? And though shadows seemingly disappear, that doen't mean that there is nothing to fear. There are so many things I cannot see, that arbitrarily influence me. And as preposterous as this may sound, their impact on me is often profound. As emotional serpents poised to strike, what do jealousy and envy look like? And what of shame and unrequited love, they oft feel like punishment from above. How can intangible feelings hurt so while causing such consternation and woe?

This is wonderfully constructed, Emile. So many questions rise from our minds, and so many are left unanswered.
