Where Did It Go

WHERE DID IT GO?
Do you remember all those years ago
When we were young and life had scarce begun.
When we were fancy free and all aglow
With love that burned more brightly than the sun.

How, with the certainty of youth, we knew
Our love would last forever and a day.
We made our vows to love our whole life through
Forever true and faithful come what may.

So how did love so perfect and complete
Become so cold and dark and fade away,
Amid such bitterness when once so sweet,
‘Til but a fading memory today?
 
  I still remember all those years ago
  When we were young and I still loved you so
