When You'Re Four

Angry voices Shadows pass beneath the door Nights can be very scary When you’re only four The screaming - the walls shaking The vibration on the old creaky floor The harsh words The slamming of the door The nights are the most frightening It's the fear of the unknown If one parent leaves Which one will stay home? She brought me into this life He taught me how to tie my shoes Please, please don't ask me to decide Which one I go to The early morning sun Provides the promise of a new day She happily makes my cereal He gladly ask me to play So, I quickly finish my milk I grab a ball and a glove If I can make them happy Perhaps I’ll be loved? I know it’s all up to me I'll become their little man So, to keep us together I have to always do the best that I can But as the sky starts to darken The voices and shadows re-appear I pull up my tiny covers I wipe away a little tear Here come the voices The shadows pass beneath the door Nights are so scary When you’re only four The early morning sun Provides the promise of a new day She happily makes my cereal He gladly ask me to play
