When Your Mind Plays Tricks On You
The lonely night has been long and dark.
The absence of light make the surroundings stark.
I don’t know what to do when I cannot sleep.
There are fallacies about counting sheep.
I thought I would just lie alone in my bed.
Sounds all around me infiltrate my ears to my head.
I try to figure out what they may be.
Is it the crickets calling which I cannot see?
I hear what sounds like cars going down the road.
They burden my mind with a heavy load.
I know it’s dark and I cannot see.
There are so many other sounds I hear around me.
When lying in the dark, your mind may play tricks on you.
Sometimes you cannot discern the false from the true.
If you listen long enough, they may drive you insane.
You’ll wonder why you are in this situation so inane.
That is just your mind playing tricks on you.
On a night you can’t sleep, what will you do?
Inspired by another soup member's work.
