When You Came About

as I look into the mirror,
I wonder what i see.
is the person staring back,
really me?

moisturize my skin,
do my hair the way I like,
it looks like me,
it seems like me,
it doesn’t feel like me.

I scream into the mirror,
frustrated with what I see.
the person staring back,
isn’t me.

I lost a part of myself,
when you came about.
you took my innocence,
and my recollection.
I thought I knew myself,
until I met you.

sometimes I feel sad,
when I think of you.
but now I realize,
I’m better off,
when you’re farthest away.

always have been,
always will be.
it took some time to show,
that you only care for yourself.
but now I know.
