When Will You Say Enough Is Enough

I have seen the fireflies two nights in succession
wandering restlessly in the dark
hundreds of them blinking evocative lights
symbolizes the souls of warriors whose blood
have drenched the desiccated earth for a cause
they believe would unify the world.

I sat on a stone near the pond watching them searching
for their bodies, bodies that are still trapped, skeleton and bones
buried in the ground while some are swinging tirelessly from trees.
Bodies are lying in cemeteries but their spirits are
meandering in the cold, looking for their exhausted souls.

They have built numerous empires with gates lined
with gold, turbulent wall painted in blood dating back to
centuries when initiations were made by their ancestors
to follow a fearless path and if they disobeyed
they were beheaded and thrown out in the dark.

A path that has become too heavy to bear has taken a toll on those
who are so dear, destroying the essence of man, disrupting the social order
with ruthless acts of deception that sinks deeply in the earth’s core.
Pious words have fractured our confidence and shaken the heavens
But those who are a part of it know all about it.

We have watched our sons and daughters fallen victims
to these merciless clans, notorious gangs, dangerous
groups and names we could barely pronounce while we were in school.
Young boys robbed of their youth and, little girls choked of their
innocence yet they are seeking clemency.

The middle passage has been repeated a thousand times
With no act of mercy but only a path leading to a bitter destiny.
As the days drifts and earth embodies the heat
nightmare of the past are replaying in many unconventional ways.

Whether Alexander the Great or Adolf Hitler, the tyranny of
Yesterday has seeped into the blood and every fiber of our children.
Our young people getting high on substance, politician are being beguiled
And their own children have become victims to these fearless and
heartless human vultures .

They defy public orders, harassed strangers, con the weak
and romance with the authorities just for a favor
while the bald headed beast sits in his bloodstained
empire over the border giving sinister orders.

When will you say enough is enough?
Aren’t you tired of them controlling the streets?
When will you say enough is enough
Aren’t you weary of them running loose in communities?

Some women have become victims to their seductive lies
“If you love me my darling, I will protect you and you will get by”
They have been deceiving their women for years
living a double life using the children in unscrupulous deeds
while planning and committing atrocious subtle acts

I have seen it in the East,
I have perceived it in the West,
I have discerned it in the North
And I have detected it in the South.

Mothers pay attention to your sons and daughters
teach them the message of love and compassion
and in difficult times when they have to choose
they will remember the good things from their youth.

My heart is burning inside there is no time to retreat
Women you must stand up mightily on your feet
hold strong to your ideals until this perpetual journey is complete
for enough is enough!
