When We Said Goodbye

You told me that you loved me

that day.

You had said so before,

but not often,

and timidly,

as though you feared the words

and the weight that they can carry.

So hearing them said, then,

loudly and surely,

then,

roused such joy, need, hope,

and disappointment

and the certainty that they were to be

the last things you and I would share.

Awwww, sweet. A breakup of any relationship without a proper goodbye, whether it be eternal love or platonic friendship, is damaging to the soul. I'm happy you walked away from this one, although sad, at least knowing you're loved. I'm rooting for you, Red. :)
