When Their Whispers Became Too Loud

In the stillness of darkness
mockery, lies, gossips like air arise
dragging you down, for a penny sake
Abuse of power just for wealth.

Who would have thought of these silent moves?
Cheating on a poor innocent
While still in a dungeon of fire in a
gloomy weekly days and nights in lost paradise.

The so-called "smile" is a shadowed
for the world to see, but the cruelty it brings into reality.
A smile that wears a mask, sarcasm and insults that leave behind a scar.

'Till a dame's untouched heart broke
Lonely, weary and dreary.
No one cared, nor listened.
In the name of Penny.

Still, I wait for the beaming light above,
the everlasting hope in my heart
will never fade.

I won’t let evil take root in me—
only the Spirit,
somewhere, somehow,
guiding me
to make my deeds upright.

That end is powerful. Sometimes it's all we can do.

Thank you so much. Yes, sometimes just holding on and rising anyway is the strongest thing we can do.

I know firsthand how betrayal and malicious rumors may leave indelible marks in locations where serene surroundings were anticipated. It's wise to keep a level head and not let bitterness or wickedness take seed in your soul.

Absolutely—I feel that deeply. Betrayal and rumors can cut the sharpest, especially where we once felt safe. But choosing not to let bitterness take root is real strength. Peace of mind is worth protecting.

We live in an unfeeling world of lies, cruelty and deceit. No one cares for others ' sufferings as all are in a rat race to amass wealth. Yet one can live in hope that one day he/she will be heralded into real freedom and light. What we need to do is not let evil take root in us. A beautiful message you have delivered for those who grope in the pain of isolation and captivity. Have a great week ahead, Rowena!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and heartfelt words. It's true—we live in a world that often feels numbed by self-interest and silent to suffering. But hope remains our anchor, and choosing not to let evil take root in us is its own quiet form of resistance. Wishing you a week filled with light, peace, and meaningful connections.

Power... wealth... Vanity, vanity, all is vanity. When will the world ever learn? Never. Every generation's leaders and titans of business simply reinvent the same old wheel. No trust in the One Who is ready to answer their call...

So true. It’s like history keeps looping—chasing power and wealth, only to end up empty. Vanity wrapped in new packaging. If only more would truly seek the One who never changes, who’s always ready to answer… maybe then, the wheel would finally stop spinning.

A powerful message. Human nature is two sides of the same knife. Only God can temper man’s cruelty.

So true—human nature really does cut both ways. Grateful we have God's grace to help soften the edges.

The Holy Spirit leads, and the darkness where one had sought light is revealed through the Light, because it is exposed. I understand that places where solace and peace were to be expected but through treachery and gossip lead to the deepest scars. You're right to not allow evil to root in your spirit nor become bitter. I'm glad you have found Poetrysoup. Hugs & peace to you Rowena, may the Lord heal your broken heart, that kind of pain truly hurts, I know. Thanks for your visits to my poems <3

First sins: pride, jealousy, greed, murder…so many follow…all of us humans put on likewise sins. Thankfully we have a merciful and gracious God who sacrifices, seeks after us, but doesn’t choose for us.

Very poignant, intriguing; could almost be an epitaph for Princess Diana. I enjoy your writing style, Rowena...it is elusive and provocative. :) john
