When She Comes For Me
"WHEN SHE COMES FOR ME"
death used to frighten me
but I welcome it like
the hatred some feel for me.
lady death could never hate me.
I serve her purpose.
no one will cry when I'm gone,
there will be rejoicing
and many will be relieved.
lady death has never cared
about my heart's good intention.
although, she's the only woman
that ever saw it.
my brown body will be in my bed,
stiff, cold.
next to a beer that is unfinished
and a cigar that went out.
no one will know.
no girlfriend.
no wife.
no mother.
no father.
no friend.
no one will shake me in tears,
no one will yell,
"my love! my love!"
no one will yell,
"my husband! my husband!"
no one will yell,
"my son! my son!"
no one will yell,
"my friend! my friend!"
no one will yell,
"please don't leave me!
I love you!
please don't leave me Eddie!"
there will be no answer,
there will be no attempt to have
me reveal it's all a joke.
at 6' 3", there will be a nothing
left for no one.
an old whore of mine threw out
my art, so there is none.
now, inside this room where I
lay still, where I lay alone,
there is a black folder with
my poetry.
some read, some never read
and some that were never meant
to be read.
find them and hold them dear.
for they are all I could leave
behind that lady death will not
take.
