When Love Is Absent

A love to offer to another cost
A cutting to your soul it will demand
To be rebuked by an emotional frost
This silent reply where it all will stand
Love never shares its hand without consent
Nor fears the heart's lonely chasten increase
Turns away from all when it is absent
In hopes that their approach will come to cease
For love will not be forced as it is free
And if it finds you worthy it will chose
If you try to capture love it will flee
Leave the guilty party it will accuse

To be in love with a heart so distant
Is to find that love is nonexistent
