When in touch with my soul
Not far, but when in touch I’m with the soul,
Should my inner vision slowly arise,
I see God in souls struggling to rise,
I see the same soul animating all—
In trees forlorn and lost as in desert,
In mother's selfless love do I see him,
In dreams she dreams and struggles to redeem,
I see Him in mind's mirror cleansed of dirt,
And in humanity’s selfless judgment,
In a poor man's precious last piece of bread
That he feeds a hungry dog, heart and head,
In every life from ant to elephant,
In thorns I see Him as much as in rose,
In friends, feel-hearts much as aliens and foes.
