When I Close My Eyes

Each night, as my head hits my soft pillow
A wish, for a moment, that my dreams return
I wish that I will see images of you, darling.
In my dreams, with you, the fires, they burn.

So, when I close my eyes, do you come?
Are you by my side this very evening?
Do you appear and love as I love you
Or, are all of my dreams so deceiving?

When I close my eyes, I can smell you ;
The scent of jasmine and lilac in your hair.
It seems so real, I can almost touch you.
Ever awakening? I would rather not dare.

When I close my eyes, I can hear you
As your soft voice whispers sweet affections.
I love this time I have with you, my darling,
In my dreamland, my needed inflections.

So, yes, they are real, I say this now.
When I close my eyes, you are true, I see.
I only wish, upon awakening, when I rise
that you were rising, too, right next to me.
