When Happiness Makes Us Smile

When happiness makes us smile
we might think we are feeling fine...
forgetting the one who left that void inside;
could we love another with the same desire?

I happened to run into an old sweetheart
who waved and tried to get closer to me,
I resisted assuming it wasn't smart;
but I couldn't ignore the spark of sincerity
in those nostalgic eyes that asked for sympathy,
did they forget all the pain they caused me?

When happiness makes us smile,
a fonder feeling grows with the urge to forgive;
can we forgive and rekindle the flame that died,
why did we put it out and not waited
until uncertainty was persuasive
enough to pull us apart more than a mile?

Cold hands need warm hearts
to restart that passion given up with mistrust,
dry lips need passionate kisses
to make them taste a sweetness that could last.

When happiness makes us smile,
we are ready to touch the clouds and ride
them to Heaven and reach that place of joy:
there we'll find our moments of glory!

I guess the feelings of hurt could prevent the relationship from rekindling, Andrew. Still, I understand the desire to "begin again." Just be careful and protect your precious heart. Hugs, carolyn
