Listen to poem:

When Forever Changed

Forever was the way you smiled
Whenever you looked at me
The way your hand fit into mine
Like we were always meant to be

Forever was the quiet nights
The dreams and plans we made
The little moments no one saw
That were never meant to fade

But forever can change in a single breath
In a moment, an hour, a day
And suddenly, your whole world is gone
The love of your life is taken away

Now all I hear is silence
Your side of the bed cold and bare
Every corner of our home
Still whispers that you should be there

I still reach for you in sleep
Your laughter still loud in my mind
Still searching for traces of your soul
In everything you left behind

Forever changed in the blink of an eye
One last hello...no last goodbye
So I’ll wait for the day we meet again
Where goodbye won’t ever have to end

They say that times a healer
That time will ease the pain
That time will dry my tears
But time will never erase your name

Now I'm left alone in a world
With a grief that can not be tamed
Left with shattered and broken dreams,
Since that day...
When forever changed...

The depth of heartbreak takes a lasting toll when a loved one is lost to us. You’ve exposed those sorrowful emotions quite well in your verses, Raina.

I like the rhythm, rhyme and flow of this one, Raina. I hope your loss was not recent. My husband of 63 years passed this past October so, I can understand the loss. I know no two people experience the same loss, but what they go through is very similar. I found some very helpful information online about grief and its stages. Thank you for sharing this one with us. Sara K
