When Did We Go Astray - Kib

A pregnant woman boards the bus
  Do we always make way
  Or do we turn away
She depended on our kindness!
  When did we go astray
  What does your conscience say

It is amazing to me how rude society can be these days. Amazing and decidingly sad. You have penned this well.

Good luck, Gershon, great poem. This world is indeed odd. But nothing new to me. I saw this move toward incivility on the buses in Chicago in the 1960's. And it seems to snowball everywhere as the years pass. We are now aggressively attacking those who don't agree with us? Reminds me of Nazis. And that alone is a terrorist act. We are far past the bus stage, Panagiota

You're right. We are well past the 'bus stage.' Still rankles though, when I see young people who won't get up for the ailing elderly, for extremely pregnant women, etc. :) gw

It's sad that being kind and considerate of others is quickly fading away. Society is becoming more and more self-absorbed, caring only for their comfort and needs. Your poem reflects this. Best wishes in the contest, Gershon! Love, Kim

Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Kim. Much appreciated... It is sad to see how self-absorbed everyone is. Dare we blame technology?! I think it's a big part of the answer, though it was coming before all these devices came along. :) gw

so true, back in the day people would give their seats up for elderly or pregnant folks, not so much these days....i however did in florida, on a crowded bus heading to disney a young mother got on with a little one and no one would offer her a seat, so i did, so she could sit and hold the small child....good write :) hugs

Good for you!... It's amazing to me to see pregnant women and nursing mothers often having to stand on public transportation in Chicago. Very disheartening. What have we come to?!! ~ gw
