Notes About The Poem

Entry for MUSINGS ON A BENCH Contest: Sponsored by: Nette Onclaud Date wrote 17th Mar 26

When Bench Removed

They removed the bench a few weeks back
to prevent the homeless from sleeping there
a concrete pad still sits;
        four exposed bolts, waiting.
Worn, indented dirt from countless feet
still attracts the squirrels, pigeons, ducks;
But now no one sits to feed them.
                The park is empty.

A statement that saddens me; to me it loved having purpose, helping those in need, but man couldn't understand such generosity toward the homeless as they had morphed fear into hate. The bench was tortured & broken to bits due to the same ignorance that has destroyed 'lives' for all of time. This is a great poem to expound upon, throw out contest limitations and dig in - you have the skills to really deliver the full metaphor on man's history of ignorance due to fear, hate vs goodwill.noroomnow
