When a Poem Is Criticized
When a Poem Is Criticized
By Elton Camp
As for all those who will post poetry online
Severe criticism is a thing they can’t mind
We must be prepared for some expert to tell,
“Nice try, but your poem didn’t flow so well.”
Or, “Your writing was really a disgusting sight.
Because the rhymes you selected are just trite.”
Then along will come some inane, carping slob
“Keep writing, but don’t give up your day job.”
Usually, if the critic’s own posting you check
You will find he also didn’t do worth a heck
Much like a eunuch in a harem or a musician deaf,
He tells others what to do, but can’t do it himself
(Revised 2-1-11 in keeping with suggestions.)
