When a Friendship Dies

When a friendship dies no mourners come with last respects to pay There’s nothing but the silence where there once was much to say Old comforts feeling awkward if in happenstance we meet We are strangers once again in chance encounters on the street The laughter and camaraderie of former times are through You’ve found a better crowd to join and I shall find one too No, there will be no fanfare no memorial for the dead No tributes in the papers no obituaries read For it will simply fade away right there before your eyes Leaving you to write a poem when a friendship dies

So true, and in the end sadly, many friendships once counted, pass.

Hello Michael Wise, you must keep your mind busy when you lose a friend. Losing a friend is hard. Have a nice day my friend.

Touching and so sad. I have never had a friendship die...some just faded away. Now at a youthful 81...my friends, not friendships are dying. Nourish friendships, true friends can be closer than family these days.

Love it!! The rhythm is wonderful and the words so very true. I found this to happen after graduating from high school when you are surrounded by tons of "friends". Upon graduation the number lessens. Only the true friends remain and that's all that matters anyway. Authentic friends.

Yes, and after 45 years since my early school days, my small nucleus of friends that I had then are still with me today. :)
