What’s in a want, what makes it so big,
What makes us all chase, race and raid?
And why, after devouring our want, do we create a new want,
A want that is perfectly made.
What’s with the want, its allure, bait, appeal,
Why does a want torment?
Aren’t we all satisfied with what we already have,
Aren’t we, by now, all content?
Maybe our wants aren’t what we think they should be,
Maybe they’re not made at all.
Maybe they’re grown from feelings of happy,
From pride, desire or grief with no shawl.
I think our most intimate wants for attachment and love,
For approval and inclusion and care.
These are the wants we urgently need,
These should be the wants that we wear.
