What's Important

What’s Important It was barely light; you were up and about, Fully dressed and ready to go out. Much on your agenda, you were ready to start, Mind racing in perfect time with your heart. Garage doors up, I could hear the sound, Of a busy boy pounding the ground. Watching out the window at this little tike, I could see him gearing up to ride his bike. With helmet on, grinning ear to ear, He looked up to see my approving glare. I waved him on, and off he went, Up the sidewalk in a happy sprint. I thought to myself, “This is how life should be”. “Easily amused and feeling free”. Taking all life has to offer, leaving nothing in return, An important lesson all adults need to learn. If only we could live life this free, What a better world it would turn out to be. If we could only appreciate the little things in life, We’d be a whole lot happier with a lot less strife. Thanks Son, for reminding me what’s important today, As I promise to change from my usual way. So I grab some clothes and I’m on the run, To go ride bikes with my adorable son.

I wish we could all have learned this lesson years ago. What a well written poem. Mike

Enjoyed this Jeff. Children have so much to teach us. It's a shame life seems to make us loose our sense of innocence and carefree spirit. Nice tribute to your son. Best wishes Em :)
