What's Harder Than This

She's worried about him
He knows she is
the time that's passed--
the stuff he did

She would do anything for him
He would do the same for her
but both would never admit defeat

They could withstand almost anything, but can they survive deceit?

He feels guilty
She knows he does
and she will make him pay
He will grovel
She will stay

Now they're feeling empty
with nowhere to go but down
They can't make it like it was
Love can't save them now

He stopped talking
She shut down: just a cold and lackluster stare
Hugs-- harder than the dirt between them

He loves her and wanted to stay
She shrugged him aside
She pushed him away

This was too large to handle
too late to try
Problems too big for him or I
We let them ferment-- the arguments and such
The fussing
The fighting
It was all too much

She kissed him one last time
touched his face; to remember how it felt.
