What Would Happen?

What would happen to a rose forbidden from sunlight Bound into darkness alone Withering cries that cast shadows even in the darkest of places Desperate callings into the soils so rich and giving Yet death comes slowly But it comes What would happen to a wingless dove still so desperate to fly Freedom torn from flesh She lives, but not in life She is prey for the scavengers of death She lives, but cannot fly She watches her death come And it comes creeping in the dark edges of life What would happen to a whale unable to swim from shores Beached and bound to the forces of gravity Suffocating pressure so inescapable She can see her life behind her But cannot reach it She touches the sands that irritate wounds She touches another world A place where she has no place She slowly dies in the sun Songs that echo in the pools do not sing anymore Chords lost And death comes What would happen to a wildebeest that wanders away alone To become an individual, she has to leave But then becomes vulnerable To the same scavengers that scream in the night And loom in the shadows She becomes one One And yes, death comes It comes with ripping teeth and razor claws Tearing flesh and consumption Her organs in the bowels of a predator Still while she screams And she stands beyond death But for a moment And then she leaves What would happen... I know exactly what would happen...
