What Were We

What were we, you and I?
         before it all
         before our fall
         before we lost our time

What was I to you my friend?
If I'm still to call you that
If you still call me that
If I'm still to make amends

Tell me all the things you thought,
and all the things you felt.
         Before you left,
         before I left,
         before we both forgot.

And maybe
         just maybe,
         our ends
         can start again.
