What We Could Have Had

Hello my friend, how are you?
Not too bad? Well, I hope that's true.

I'm alright. A little down, a little worn. A little sad, or maybe more.
...Actually, a lot more.

I'm sad because I never knew. I never knew the pretty pictures you drew
Were given to others.
Pretty words, and pretty dreams.
Pretty lies, and pretty schemes.
I was not one of two, but one of three.
But who really knows what number was me?

Oh, lovely, I would have given my life for you.
Been your wife, raised your children. Those images are still so clear.
You here on Christmas day, that image still takes my breathe away.
The daughter we would have had, Saweira, our sunlight.
We never did decide who would spoil, and who would discipline.

Suki, my love, there will always be a part of me that longs for what we used to have.
Back when you were all I knew, all I wanted.
Back when I would have given my home, my country, my family, my friends up for you.
Back when you were worth more than anything.

Back when you're pretty lies still held their meaning.

But I'm alright. A little down, a little worn.

I was sad, but not anymore.
