What the Old Tree Grew

The old bent withered tree had weathered many storms. At one point, a hollowing out began at its thickest part. A specific shape took form; the old tree had grown a heart. For Sijo contest by Rick Parise

indeed he is ;)! didn't know that there was so much into Sijo, & by the looks of it there's still so much to learn about it! hmm ok I'll take a shot at it and post a couple of them that I wrote--I think I dwelled too much on it having a twist though, wanted mine to be more eloquent but that's not happening...;) check out for those posts! :) thanks!

good rainy morning from my side of the world, Andrea :)! thanks for your tips on the sijo--I only have one tanka though, so I'd have to write entirely new ones ;) it is fun & challenging at the same time--I actually came up with some last night (contacted Chris too for any tips he might have, sure learned a bunch from him!) but I guess I'm really not sure if I did them right...thanks again :)

Never heard of this form before - interesting. Are you a fan of Tolkien. He wrote about trees that talked. I have never met one but it was a nice part in his work. Yours in poetry Matthew Anish

Aye, and ta be sure! Trees be smart, they be. The old, withered tree has seen more than you or me. I'm with the Greeks who treasured trees as living things, which, of course, they are. I am CRAZY about this poem. Love, Dave
