What the Eye Sees the Heart Cannot Forget

She wanders through her endless dreams
a frail waif, wide eyed and innocent
slow and pensive, searching, ever searching...

Her pale white gown flutters softly
as she floats within her ethereal
world of light and shadows.

She is guided by an angelic dove
serenely perched upon her thin hand
as she weaves through her self imposed
forest of fears and broken promises.

She is desperate to navigate out
of her childhood nightmares
to move past horrid abuses
to find relief in the pure light of day.

Ever wandering, her heart compels her
to move ever closer toward the light
to a place where all is well and bright
to a place where there will be no more night.

There is a yearning to this poem that is so soothing. So real.

I gotta tell you, Laura. My first thought after reading this was that Blues Brothers movie. The scene where James Brown is the preacher and John Belushi says "I see the light" Anyway "sweet" write. Good luck.

Hauntingly beautiful Laura. This felt soft but lonely and really expressed the emotions of this world wonderfully. I really enjoyed this. Good luck in the contest
