What Spirit

What sort of a spirit do you hold in your heart?
Is it meek, is it mild, does it good will impart?
Or is your spirit angry, full of wrath and mistrust?
Is it hungry for power, perhaps filled with lust?

Does it reach out for things and material gain,
Or is it your looks, may-hap a bit vain?
Whatever you nurture, what you hold most dear,
Has a hold on you too and it's loss you will fear.

Don't store up your treasure in the things of this world.
There are things much more lasting than diamonds and pearls;
And the laurels of many will not last for long.
They're here for today and then they are gone.

Youth and good looks are here for a season.
They're fleeting at best, for the shortest time pleasin',
And revenge is but sweet for the moment, no more,
For vengeance is Mine and not yours says The Lord.

What sort of spirit makes it's home 'neath your breast?
Does it make your heart warm or feel empty at best?
